Unorthodox sweep moves Twins into first place
New Oxford's unusual doubleheader sweep of Littlestown Saturday afternoon moved the Twins into first place in the South Penn League standings. The Twins won game one by forfeit, 7-0, when a Littlestown player ejection in the top of the third inning prevented the Dodgers from fielding 9 men. The baseball gods then laughed as it took 11 innings to settle game two, eventually won by the Twins by a score of 2-1. Dalton Haymaker's solo home run in the top of the final inning made the difference. Littlestown outhit the Twins 9-6 in the marathon, stranding 14 runners along the way.
In other SPL results from Sunday, North Carroll outlasted Cashtown 10-9 in game one before the visiting Pirates roared back with a 12-1 win in the nightcap to split their doubleheader at North Carroll HS.
Brushtown and Hanover each picked up a pair of Father's Day wins on their home fields. The Bulldogs swept Biglerville by scores of 9-2 and 6-3, while Hanover blasted past Gettysburg 12-2 and 14-4.
