Gettysburg Squeaks Out Pair of Wins over Pesky Bulldogs

Gettysburg found themselves in a dogfight in both games of its doubleheader at Brushtown, but the Grays emerged victorious. Each game saw the two squads knotted at 4-4 after five.  In the opener, the Grays pushed a run across in the top of the sixth and held on for the 5-4 win. Tyler Martin went the distance and struck out 15 to get the win, while counterpart Ethan Slusser also tossed a complete game and fanned 8. Logan Carbaugh had three hits and three RBIs to lead Gettysburg, while Slusser, Chris Staub, and Joel Raubenstein all had two hits for Brushtown. In the nightcap Gettysburg pulled away in the last two innings to win 7-5. Troy Litten had two hits for Gettysburg. Sam Shea went five innings for the win, while Dan Dennison picked up the save. Raubenstine struck out 10 in the loss.

Hanover moved into the league lead in wins with a pair of victories over Biglerville on Sunday at Oakside.  The Raiders scored six runs in the top of the first, then held off a Biglerville comeback to down the Sox 9-6 in the opener. Mark Phillips, Bob Taylor, Andrew Burke, and Kody Kibler each had two hits in the win. Tyler Null got the win and Kibler nailed down the save. Noah Ayers had three hits and Shawn Redding homered to lead Biglerville.  In game two, John Karlheim hit a two-out, two-run single to break a 5-5 tie, allowing Hanover to take the nightcap 7-5. Burke and Alex Smith both doubled and picked up 2 RBIs in the win, and Adam Smith singled twice. Redding was 2-for-4 with a double for the Black Sox.

New Oxford's Anthony Lippy struck out 15 in the Twins 10-1 opening-game win over North Carroll, but the Panthers bounced back in game two with a 7-4 victory to salvage a split in their doubleheader at North Carroll High School. Larry Baumgardner had three hits and Mitch Collins had a pair of singles and drove in three for New Oxford in the opener, while Elijah Wingate had three of the Panthers' five hits. In game two,the Panthers trailed 2-1 but scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Steve Stonesifer got the win depsite walking 10, and Zac Nedzel finished up to preserve the comeback. Wade Groupp, Ryan Gerber, and Dalton Groupp had two hits apiece for the Panthers. Collins chipped in two more hits for the Twins.
