Biglerville Win Over Gettysburg Highlights Regular Season Finale

In one of two weekend games wtih playoff implications, Biglerville trailed Gettysburg 3-2 entering the bottom of the fourth before exploding for eight runs, leading to an eventual 13-3 win over the Grays Saturday afternoon at Oakside. Tanner Byers was 4-for-4 and Noah Ayers drove in 3 to lead the Black Sox offense. Jamie Beal tossed five innings, striking out six along the way, to grab the win. Ian Van Anden had two runs batted in for Gettysburg, whose loss locked the Grays into the seven seed for the upcoming SPL playoffs.

Littlestown defeated North Carroll 9-6 in 10 sweltering innings in Hampstead. The Dodgers scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6, then pushed across three runs in the top of the 10th to win it. Andrew Wilmer and Ryan Gerber both had three hits for North Carroll in a losing cause. Jacob Crawmer drove in two for the Dodgers.

Cashtown and New Oxford were tied up at 2-2 entering the sixth before the Pirates pounded out seven runs over the final two frames in their 9-2 win over the Twins at New Oxford High School. DJ Cool was 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Chase King drove home three for the first-place Pirates. Michael Tempel went five innings for the win. Brady Topper had a pair of hits for the Twins.

Biglerville's win, combined with North Carroll's loss, meant that Sunday's remaining matchup between North Carroll and Gettysburg would determine the 5-6 seeds in the SPL playoffs.  However, after playing 10 innings on Saturday following a doubleheader Friday night in high temperatures, North Carroll (with Gettysburg's agreement) has opted to not play their remaining makeup game.  That leaves North Carroll and Biglerville with identical 10-18 records, and Biglerville - having won three of four against the Panthers in the regular season - wins the tiebreaker.  That hands Biglerville the no. 5 seed and relegates North Carroll to the no. 6 seed.

Littlestown and Brushtown have also agree to scrap their remaining regular season contest that was rained out on Wednesday, since it has no bearing on playoff seeding.
