Two SPL games scheduled for Sunday, May 12 have already been postponed, and it does not look promising for the others.
Littlestown's single game at Cashtown is postponed and has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 28 at Cashtown.
North Carroll and New Oxford's doubleheader has also been scrubbed. No makeup dates have been finalized.
Brushtown at Gettysburg and Biglerville at Hanover look doubtful...please check with those teams before venturing out.
The Littlestown Dodgers overcame a pair of deficits to down New Oxford 4-3 in walkoff fashion Thursday night at Littlestown. With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Tim Copenhaver led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error on the play. He moved to third on Sean Connole's ground out and scored the game winning run on a wild pitch. New Oxford took a 1-0 lead in the third on Larry Baumgardner's RBI single, but the Dodgers tied things up an inning later when Sam Wertz scored on a wild pitch. The Twins tacked on two more on Mitch Collins' 2-run single in the fifth. Littlestown knotted the score again in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Jacob House and a squeeze bunt from Jack Sullivan. The Twins loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but winning pitcher Justin Keith escaped the jam with no damage. Baumgardner, Collins, and Jeff Deveney each had two hits for the Twins, who outhit the Dodgers 9-4 in the game. Copenhaver had two singles for Littlestown.
In other South Penn results from Thursday, Hanover withstood a 7th-inning rally to defeat Gettysburg 3-2. The Raiders led 3-0 entering the final inning, but RBIs from Brandon Harman and Jarrod Mattias closed the gap. Austin Kibler entered and recorded the final out to earn the save and make a winner of Tyler Null, who fanned seven across five innings of work. Sam Shea suffered the hard luck loss, allowing 3 runs, 0 earned, across six innings. Mattias had three hits for the Grays and Dustin O'Brien added two.
Biglerville beat Brushtown 9-1. No game details were available.
Littlestown's attempts to play two games on Sunday - one regularly scheduled game vs. Gettysburg plus a makeup of last week's game against Biglerville - have been foiled due to rain. An announcement of when those games will be made up will be coming soon.
In additions, Brushtown's home game against New Oxford and Cashtown's game versus Hanover have also been postponed due to wet grounds.
Cody Smith made his debut with his new team a good one as he tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout in Cashtown's 1-0 win over Biglerville Thursday night at the Cashtown Yards. The Pirates were actually outhit 2-1 in the contest, but Smith, who pitched for Brushtown for many years before his move west, struck out nine against no walks to notch the win. The Pirates scored their lone run in the sixth when Cooper Ayres, another Brushtown transfer, walked, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Robert Rohrbaugh's sac fly. Tanner Byers tossed five strong innings for Biglerville, which got singles by Shawn Redding and Jesse Beal.
In other South Penn action from Thursday, New Oxford doubled up host Gettysburg 10-5 behind a 13-hit attack led by Zach Keffer, who went 4-for-4 at the dish and drove in three runs. Larry Baumgardner, Mitch Collins, and Alex Emlet each had a pair of hits and two RBIs. For Gettysburg, Jarrod Mattias was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Logan Carbaugh has two hits.
Hanover mashed Littlestown 11-0 at Diller Field in the opener for both teams. No other game details were reported.
Cashtown blanked Brushtown 5-0 Sunday in the opening day of the South Penn League schedule. Chase King went five innings to notch the win, with Hunter Rang helping to preserve the shutout. No other game details were reported.
Sunday's other opening game, Biglerville vs. Littlestown, was postponed due to wet conditions. No makeup date has been announced.
